In the spring 2019, Bangor Area Wrestling had a very exciting second season! The regular season entailed an 8-3 record and a 6th place finish in the Crossover Duals. We then hosted the Regional Championship at Bangor High School. Hosting this tournament was a great honor as it was the first time being held in Bangor. In what was certainly the highlight of the season, Bangor Area Wrestling used the "home field" to our full advantage placing second as a team! This second place finish was fueled by our NINE placers: (4) 2nd place, (3) 3rd place and (2) 4th place. These nine wrestlers then went on to compete in the Pine Tree Championship. Here they battled for a 10th place team finish with (2) 2nd place and (1) 3rd place individual finishes. To conclude the season, our first ever Marshwood New England's Champion was crowned at the 285 lb weight class, Xander Doty from Old Town! Bangor Area Wrestling has arrived and is here to stay!

Since 2014, our coaches and volunteers have supported the Bangor Parks & Recreation Wrestling program for elementary school grades. Starting in 2019, we added a youth program in collaboration with the Old Town Orono YMCA and University of Maine Wrestling Team who supplied coaches.
The programs run during February & March. Registration is posted at www.bangorparksandrec.com and at http://otoymca.org/ymca To learn more about the program and see additional photos, find us on Facebook. In 2018, our wrestlers and coaches that participated in the Bucksport and Mt. View tournament were recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship. In 2019, two youth wrestlers received special recognition. Cooper Keeler was awarded Most Outstanding Wrestler in Dexter and Gavin Ashton was recognized as having Outstanding Sportsmanship at Mt. View. We couldn't be more proud! |
Jeffrey Kirk wrestled during the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 seasons where both years, he placed in the KVAC conference championships and represented Bangor High School with a winning record, demonstrating that it’s never too late to start your wrestling career. He required extra grit and dedication, traveling 6 days a week to wrestle with Nokomis in Newport, the nearest Class A school to Bangor.
Coach Aaron Hoshide, co-founder of Bangor Wrestling, helped lay the ground work by connecting with Head Coach, Scott Preble of Nokomis. Rebecca Kirk, Jeffrey's mother and BAW board member did the tireless advocacy work with the Bangor School Department to ensure Jeffrey had the opportunity to wrestle. Bangor Area Wrestling looks forward to supporting more of our wrestlers as they prepare to wrestle in high school and thank the Kirk family and Coach H for paving the way! |
